There is nothing like genuine kindness!

Harold’s Thoughtful Person of the Day:  Beach Front Bike Shop Guys!

These guys were extremely helpful in renting us bikes and attaching Harold’s racer chair! Thanks much!

In LA we decide to do some bike riding on the beach.  See video below!  Harold selected the two gentlemen above because they were genuinely kind, and made Harold feel very comfortable.  Harold and many like him have a keen sense of detecting sincerity and is almost always spot on.  Being polite is one thing, but being comfortable and interacting with Harold socially with no awkwardness at all,  well it was no surprise that Harold asked the man, “Do you have any connection to special needs?”.  The man responded,  “No, why? and Susan answered, “He is asking you that because he is surprised at how comfortable you are with him”.  To which he answered, “He’s just like everyone else…”, and Susan said, “Amen to that!”

This interaction really was one of the highlights of this trip.  Just remember that people with disabilities or special needs are really just like everyone else.  They often have an acute sense of who is comfortable and sincere and who is not.  So, don’t be afraid, and be like this guy, and just say, “Hey man what’s up, are you having a good day?”  And it’s OK if they can’t respond, but they do feel your sincerity.

Headed back to Hartford

Our flight back to BDL was a red eye scheduled for 9PM so we had some time for some final dining on the beach.  All in all this was a very successful first trip for the Thoughtful Travelers!!!  We learned a lot about how to blog, and will be looking to improve it as we continue.  Most of all, however, we had fun and we are excited about what the future holds.

…and that’s a wrap on Cali trip.

Next up will be some “day in the life” stuff which will give you a glimpse into every day “regular” life!
